Regular cleaning of your showerhead is essential. A buildup of limescale and natural minerals in the showerhead can cause a decrease in shower pressure. This can also lead to water shooting in all directions. These simple steps will ensure that your showerhead is clean, no matter if you are experiencing decreased pressure or want to prevent it from getting limescaled.
What tools do I need to clean my showerhead?
You will need the following tools:
- Brio Scrubber
- White Vinegar
- Measurement Jug (or a Bowl)
- Plastic Sandwich Bag
- Two to three elastic bands
6 Steps for Cleaning Your Showerhead
Step 1 - Clean the Showerhead
Use your brio scrubber to scrub your showerhead with warm water. You want to remove any excess dirt, limescale, or minerals that may have built up on your showerhead.
Step 2 - Mix white vinegar and warm water solution
Combine equal amounts of white vinegar and warm (not too hot!) water in a measuring cup. The solution should then be carefully transferred into a small plastic sandwich bag.
Step 3 - Tie the plastic bag around the showerhead
Then, you will need to place the showerhead into the plastic bag solution. Finally, tie the bag with elastic bands. It can be tricky with larger showerheads, but it is possible with some clever handwork.
Step 4 - Allow the Showerhead To Soak
Allow the showerhead to soak for at least an hour. The vinegar and water solution will dissolve any limescale and mineral deposits.
Step 5 - Run the showerhead
After about an hour, you can take the showerhead out, wipe it with the brio scrubber, and flush it with hot tap water. This will flush out any mineral deposits that may have built up inside the showerhead.
Step 6 - Check the Flow
After you have descaled the showerhead, check your water flow to increase pressure. See our dedicated guide to increasing shower pressure for more tips on increasing water pressure.
How to Keep your Showerhead Clean
It can become quite tedious to pull out the white vinegar and water solutions once every six months. These are the steps to prevent limescale and minerals from building up.
1. After every shower, clean your showerhead
After drying, grab your towel and give your showerhead a quick wipe. This will prevent limescale buildup and only takes a few moments.
2. Cleanse the showerhead once per month
Bathrooms should be cleaned at the very least once a month. Many people neglect to clean their bathrooms every month. If you are one of these people, give your showerhead an annual cleaning with a brio brush. This will remove any minerals that could cause blockages in the showerhead.
3. Buy a Limescale Resistant showerhead
We recommend a limescale-resistant showerhead if you live in an area with hard water. These showerheads have removable filters that prevent excess chemicals and minerals from reaching the showerhead. This showerhead is ideal for preventing limescale and removing 99 per cent of the chlorine in the water.
